False Aralia

False Aralia (Plerandra elegantissima) is an elegant tropical houseplant with long, narrow leaves and finely serrated edges that give it a delicate, almost feathery appearance. Young plants typically have deep green to bronze foliage, creating a dramatic look that works beautifully as a statement plant or as part of a tropical plant collection.

With its slender, upright growth habit, False Aralia can eventually develop into an impressive indoor tree while still maintaining its light, airy appearance. It appreciates consistent conditions and can be sensitive to sudden changes, so once you find a spot where it’s happy, it’s best to leave it there.

Caring for False Aralia

Light Needs

False Aralia prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate moderate light, but brighter filtered light will encourage fuller growth and richer foliage colour. Avoid intense direct sunlight, which may scorch the leaves.

Watering

Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the top inch or two to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid letting the soil become completely dry or waterlogged. False Aralia also appreciates higher humidity, especially during Winnipeg’s dry winter months.

Feeding

Feed monthly during the spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer. Reduce feeding during fall and winter when growth slows. Light pruning can be used to control its height and encourage a fuller, bushier shape.
